24 Hours In Pontedeume On The Camino De Santiago Ingles

Founded in the 13th century, Pontedeume is a major stopping point on the Camino Ingles from Ferrol or A Coruna. Nestled on the banks of the Eume River, Pontedeume is a charming medieval town with plenty on offer to pilgrims who explore its winding cobblestone streets. There is a wealth of cultural, historical and natural attractions to explore in this hidden gem located in the beautiful Galician region of Spain. What’s more, the area boasts stunning coastal scenery to enjoy.

So let’s take a look at the things to see and do in 24 hours in Pontedeume.

Castillo de los Andrade

One of the town’s most iconic sites is the Castillo de los Andrade, which is a medieval fortress perched on top of a hill overlooking the Eume River. The fortress was built by the powerful Andrade family and the castle offers panoramic views of Pontedeume and the surrounding countryside. Visitors can explore the castle’s battlements, towers, and courtyards while learning about its fascinating history.

Iglesia de Santiago

The Iglesia de Santiago, a beautiful church dating back to the 14th century, is another must see attraction in Pontedeume. The church has an ornate facade and soaring bell tower, and is a testament to the town’s religious heritage and architectural prowess. Inside, pilgrims can admire intricate altarpieces, frescoes, and religious artifacts that offer insight into Pontedeume’s cultural and artistic heritage.

Exploring Pontedeume’s Natural Beauty

As you walk through the countryside into Pontedeume, you’ll be blessed to take in breathtaking natural scenery. One of the town’s most popular outdoor attractions is the Fragas do Eume, a pristine forest that surrounds the Eume River. Designated as a natural park, the Fragas do Eume is home to lush woodlands, verdant valleys, and cascading waterfalls that provide a tranquil setting for hiking, picnicking, and wildlife spotting.

Beach Life

If you are ready to relax in the sun after a day on the Camino, Pontedeume’s beautiful beaches offer the perfect downtime. Playa de Cabanas and Playa de Miño are two of the most popular beaches in the area, with golden sands, clear waters, and scenic coastal vistas. Visitors can soak up the sun, take a refreshing dip in the ocean, or enjoy water sports such as surfing, kayaking, and paddleboarding.
